Nightlife in Nottingham – Student Bars and Going Out

Nottingham is a party city, with countless bars, clubs, pubs, and venues to suit every possible taste.

So if you’re wondering if you can have a good night out in Nottingham, in this post we’ll explore some of the many things that make this city buzz after dark.

Does Nottingham Have a Good Nightlife?

Yes! Nottingham has a good nightlife. Just ask anyone who’s ever had a night out here! In 2014, Metro listed 12 things that make Nottingham “the best city in the UK”. Top of their list? The nightlife.

Along with numerous bars, restaurants, and live music venues, Metro highlighted Nottingham’s “thriving club scene that caters to everyone… there’s always a beat-filled eve to be skanking out at.”

And that’s what makes the nightlife so good for everyone: There’s always something happening, no matter what you’re into.

What Is There To Do in Nottingham at Night?

There are so many places to go in Nottingham that you’ll probably never run out of new things to try.

Start your night with a drink or two at one of Nottingham’s many excellent pubs. Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is a good place to start. They’ve been serving drinks since 1189, so they must be doing something right!

Then you can move on to something a bit classier, like a cocktail bar. Hockley Arts Club, for example, serves very curious cocktails in some truly lush surroundings. And if you’re enjoying yourself there, they have a late licence, so you can chill until the small hours.

After this, you’ll probably be in the mood for some music. If it’s live music your after, check out the gig listings at Rock City or The Rescue Rooms, or head to The Pelican for some live jazz.

Or if you’d prefer to go clubbing, we’ll take a closer look at what Nottingham has to offer below.

What is the Biggest Club in Nottingham?

Nottingham is home to many clubs, with music to suit every taste.

In terms of capacity, PRYZM is the biggest club in Nottingham, with six themed rooms and the chance to book booths.

Not as big, but every bit as epic, is Stealth – which describes itself as Nottingham’s home to electronic dance music.

What Are The Best Clubs For Students in Nottingham?

INK regularly put on nights just for students – particularly at the end of term.

Rock City and The Rescue Rooms also regularly host student nights. Especially popular with students is Rock City’s Crisis night, which they usually hold every Wednesday. There are three rooms each playing different music, so you’re bound to hear what you want to hear. And fancy dress is popular, so don’t be surprised to see a dancing banana or two.

Then there’s Ocean – or as some call it, The Big O. It’s only open during term time, and as you can only buy tickets on campus, expect things to be very student-friendly. They hold Nottingham’s official sports and societies nights every Wednesday, and a dedicated night for University of Nottingham students every Friday.

The Best Student Bars in Nottingham

Nottingham has two universities and over 40,000 students. So it’s fair to say that Nottingham is a student-friendly city.

Students are sure to feel welcome at almost any bar in the city. Yet certain bars are particularly good for students – either because they’re cheaper, or they offer discounts, or because they happen to be close to other student-friendly places.

First, it’s worth knowing that both universities have bars on campus.

The University of Nottingham has four campus bars, plus multi-function “Study Bars” within many of the halls of residence on Park Campus.

The Nottingham Trent University Students’ Union has The Brack Bar, promising to be “relaxed, comfortable, and easy on your wallet”. Sounds good!

Venture off campus and into town and you’ll find scores of student-friendly bars. Take a look at our top 5 student bar picks in Nottingham. These are places that have it all – good drinks at good prices in good surroundings, with lots of good deals for students throughout the week.

Where Are The Best Places  To Live in Nottingham?

So does Nottingham have a good nightlife? Absolutely!

And beyond offering loads to see and do, once you’re ready to call it a night, Nottingham will continue to care of you. Plenty of food places stay open late, and there are good public transport links through the night to help you get home safely.
